Medtronic SynchroMed & IsoMed Pump systems
can significantly impact the presence of pain.
|
Intrathecal infusion is commonly used for
the treatment of chronic, intractable pain of malignant or non-malignant
origin. Morphine, Dilaudid, or a combination of medicines are commonly
prescribed for use within the system. Like other intrathecal therapies,
the medication enters the spinal cord via the intrathecal or epidural
space and binds to the appropriate sites around the dorsal horn
area effectively blocking the transmission of pain.
|
|
 |
Like other applications of intrathecal delivery,
special skills are required to properly infuse and monitor the infusion
therapy process. Education and recertification is an ongoing nursing
process to assure optimal patient care.
 |
|
In addition, Home Care Plus offers pain
management utilizing external pumps via subcutaneous, intravenous
or epidural routes. Regardless of the route of administration,
our focus is first and foremost on achieving the optimal clinical
outcome.
There is a difference in home health care infusion providers.

Spinal cord stimulation is a fully implanted
system that delivers low voltage electrical stimulation to the spinal
cord to inhibit or block the sensation of pain. Patients who experience
chronic low back pain usually respond well to neurostimulation. Pain
in the extremities also have a favorable response to this therapy.
|
Neurostimulation has many advantages. The therapy
is precisely directed for areas of chronic pain relief. It reduces the
need for drugs and reoperations and is often effective for simple and
multi-focal pain.
Home Care Plus is currently the only home
care organization in Indiana and the Midwest to offer stimulator
adjustments outside the hospital and physician's office. With a
rapid increase in the number of neurostimulator implants, we are
available to make periodic adjustments based on your (the patient's)
schedule, thus saving time and inconvenience.
